AR Talk is a program to control the AOR AR-8600 Scanner. I have written this program to run under windows and it is designed to be fully accessible for the blind. Although I wrote this program for my personal use the whole operation is designed to be controlled by single key presses for easy accessibility and everything is spoken. The program needs no libraries such as hamlib etc. but is a stand alone program you put the A R Talk folder anywhere you want on your computer and just start the exe file. When you start the program it will announce the program name and version and you will know it is successfully communicating with your AR8600 because it will then say connected, if it doesn't then something is incorrectly set in the radio or the configuration file or the correct driver has not been installed on your computer.
As an example of how the program works if you press the F key the program will voice the mode and exact frequency. If you tune the radio with the cursor keys and stop on a station then hitting F will again announce the frequency and mode. Hitting M will give the S-Meter reading. You can tune the receiver with the cursor keys, set up and use the search mode to search for new signals. Use two different scan modes, using either the 100 banks of channels in the program or 10 banks of channels directly in the AR8600. All this is covered in the XHTML user guide which is part of the package. There are two downloads, the first is the MP3 demo of A R Talk running. And the second is the complete A R Talk package. Please note that Windows Defender can produce a false positive. There is no virus and you can add the A R Talk folder to the Defender exclusion list or tell Defender to restore it and it will run normally. |
